Welcome

Welcome Icon

Welcome to my 2024 campaign website.

I am gratified and humbled that you and so many others in our wonderful community have supported me for so long. I look forward to serving you as State Attorney for another term.

As you know, I’ve spent the majority of my adult life in public service, protecting you, your family, and your friends. As your State Attorney, I am proud to say that I pioneered a Smart Justice strategy that has contributed to a more than 75% decrease in the violent and property crime rates according to the latest data from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE). I helped accomplish this by working with our partners to implement a number of crime prevention and rehabilitative programs that allow us to help those we can and focus our limited resources on the most recalcitrant and dangerous offenders in our community.

I’ve also aggressively pursued those who abuse the public trust.  In fact, my office has prosecuted over 900 cases against public officials and public employees (over 600 of those were for crimes involving their public positions).  As impressive as those numbers are, they do not reflect that hundreds of investigations that failed to provide the evidence we needed to file a case and prove it beyond a reasonable doubt as required by law.

With your support, I will continue doing everything I can to ensure your safety and welfare in a smart, strategic, responsible, and fair way.

Smart Justice strategy

Examples include:

  • Creating the State Attorney's Multi-Agency Public Corruption Task Force in partnership with a number of local agencies and other partners, like the Miami-Dade Commission on Ethics and Public Trust and the Miami-Dade Office of Inspector General, to conduct investigations involving public corruptions.
  • Administering a Child Support Program that collected over $1 billion in financial support that our children need, deserve, and are entitled to from their non-custodial parents during the past seven years alone;
  • Conceiving of and implementing the nation’s first drug court, leading to a national movement;
  • Partnering with Kristi House and others to create a one-stop shop for sexual assault and child abuse victims that ensures they receive the attention they deserve.
  • Establishing the nation’s first standalone Human Trafficking Center to facilitate the identification of perpetrators of this modern-day form of slavery and address our victim’s needs, along with a multi-agency Human Trafficking Task Force;
  • Creating the Gun Violence Initiative (GVI), embedding prosecutors in Miami Gardens and unincorporated North Dade to more improve investigations and prosecutions; and
  • Creating the Second Chance Program to help individuals who are eligible for relief under state law seal and/or expunge their records.

Working with partners

Working with partners whom I’ve built strong relationships with, we not only reduced recidivism and saved lives, but saved substantial tax dollars. And we did all of this in a fair and just manner. It’s no wonder that many of our programs, including some of those I just listed, serve as state or national models. Our successes are so well known that our counterparts in Brazil reached out to me and asked us to help them improve their criminal justice system.

Of course, I’m not close to declaring victory or resting on my laurels. With your support, I will continue doing everything I can to ensure your safety and welfare in a smart, strategic, responsible, and fair way.
