Advocating For You

As your State Attorney, I will not be confined to the courtroom. I have successfully advocated for a number of positive changes outside of my office, including:

Public Welfare

Housing the unsheltered;
Helping the mentally ill;
Improving public housing;
Enhancing the building code; and
Cleaning Biscayne Bay;

Victims

Advancing victim’s rights;
Creating office policies supporting victims;
Establishing Marsy’s Law;
Drafting and passing legislation to increase penalties for career criminals and violent offenders; and
Passing legislation designed to curtail the abuse of depositions involving child witnesses;

Police

Using Tasers instead of guns when possible;
Wearing Body worn cameras (BWCs);
Having outside agencies investigate police contact shootings;
Recording interviews of the accused in homicide cases;
Establishing Civilian Review Panels;
Passing legislation that enhanced statewide policies on police procedures, including the banning of chokeholds except when necessary and a duty to intervene when an officer sees another using excessive force.
